Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most changeable
thermal area in Yellowstone. Most of its thermal features have temperatures
above the boiling point. Unlike most of other geyser basins in the park, the
waters from Norris are acidic rather than alkaline.
The Norris Geyser Basin is comprised of two distinct
sections:
Porcelain Basin –
a 0.75-mile dirt trail and boardwalk cascades around a milky colored, steaming landscape. No plants can live in the hot, acidic, water emitted from the numerous thermal features in the basin.

Back Basin –
a 1.5-mile trail of boardwalk and dirt trail in a wooded area. It contains geysers and hot springs tucked among the trees.
